Diamond in the Rough: District Convention 2022 | February 12, 2022 | Hybrid

Our DCON 2022 will now be Virtual via Zoom for all CKI Club Members.

We have planned and hoped to have our DCON in person this year but as we have gotten closer we have had to consider the impacts of the Omicron variant and consult with the clubs in the PNW region.  After district officers have consulted with as many clubs as possible and reviewed the financial and budget projections with updated attendance estimates, the District Board has made the difficult decision to move DCON, originally scheduled to be in-person in Portland February 11th-13th, to a single-day mostly virtual hybrid format on February 12th.

This will mean that most of the District Admin and Board will be in-person to manage the convention while the club CKI members will be joining the conventions via Zoom for all our sessions including the House of Delegates.  Beyond that, we are hoping to organize an in-person outdoor service event in the morning for our Oregon CKI clubs to join those running DCON.

This year we will be reforming the awards application process/system to make it more streamlined and less intensive. We will release award information shortly.

From the North Star to the Big Dipper, from Aquarius to Capricorn, all members in any District of CKI, Kiwanis, and Key Club are

This event is FREE OF CHARGE and all programs are open to all paid members in any Districts.

This year, due to COVID-19, our District will be holding Convention over Zoom, and will feature a range of projects, speakers, and social connections to bridge with members of the entire Kiwanis Family! This is a great way for members to learn more about CKI, develop strong professional leadership skills, and meet members from all around the world.

ROARING: District Convention 2020 | March 6-8, 2020 | Holiday Inn Issaquah, WA

A twist on the classic art-deco era of the 1920's, this year's DCON is taking a trip back to the ROARING 20's in Issaquah, WA for a weekend filled with newly enriched, and revitalized service, leadership, and fellowship!

You know all of the classics of the 20's: Gatsby, Flappers, and the Parties! This year's DCON combines a blend of celebration and fun along with the ROARING spirit of the members of our District! We want our members to feel spirited, prideful, and motivated enough to roar their impact, and make a profound difference on themselves, their clubs, and their CKI experience!

This annual convention is a weekend full of learning, leadership, and service!

We are thrilled to celebrate another year well done with our Kiwanis Family. The weekend will bring clubs from all over to get to know one another, learn new ways to help their club and develop personal and professional skills at workshops. Our convention also incorporates a series of service projects that are unique to our host location of the greater Seattle area! Club members will also have opportunities to elect the new District Board through a House of Delegates session, as well as celebrate all that clubs have accomplished over the last year at the Governor's Awards Banquet. Every member will gain a unique experience from convention and create lasting memories!

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW CAN WE FUNDRAISE TO ATTEND DISTRICT CONVENTION?
The PNW CKI District Board is well aware that as a collegiate demographic, some of our members and officers may not have the financial support to be able to afford to attend District Convention. However, there are many ways that a club may be able to subsidize or cover the registration cost for some (or all!) members.

Please reach out to your sponsoring Kiwanis Club about monetary donations or support directed towards subsidizing attendance fees! They are your best resource into becoming further integrated into District Events! Your next valuable resource is your university student association. Many universities provide scholarships for organizations seeking to attend or hold events. There are also numerous fundraising event ideas that your club can do, such as bake sales, Krispy Kreme fundraisers, GoFundMe, and much much more!
WHAT ARE DISTRICT AWARDS AND WHY SHOULD MY CLUB APPLY?
District Awards are plaques and recognitions dedicated to recognizing your club's efforts, achievements, and success! Each year at DCON, there is a Governor's Awards Banquet where the District Board gives out awards to clubs based on numerous factors.

Some examples of awards include Outstanding Club Officer, Outstanding Member, Service Project Award, Outstanding Bulletin, Most Service Hours, as well as District Scholarships and other prestigious awards.

Awards applications will be open soon. Please check our Instagram for announcements.
WHAT ARE THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES? DO I NEED TO APPLY?
On the Saturday of Convention, a House of Delegates session is held to enact new District Bylaws and Amendments, as well as officially elect the 2020-2021 Executive District Board. Each club attending DCON is required to provide two (2) members or officers from their club as delegates to represent their club.

These two delegates will be voting on amendments, nominating candidates, and officially electing candidates. It is highly recommended that the delegates be members that will be returning for the 2020-2021 Service Year.

Registration for the Delegates Session will open soon. Please check our Instagram for updates.
HOW DO I RUN FOR A DISTRICT EXECUTIVE POSITION?
We're so glad you're interested! At District Convention, we hold an election for the 2020-2021 Executive District Board. The positions available to run for are District Governor, Secretary, Treasurer, and Bulletin Editor. Also elected during DCON is are the Divisional Lieutenant Governors.

Anyone from any region of the Pacific Northwest District is allowed to run for Governor, Secretary, Treasurer and Editor. Each candidate for each executive position will need to give their speech and run against others within the entire District.

There are up to six Lieutenant Governor positions available to run for. Each position is split by Division, so each LTG candidate will only need to give their speech and run against others within their divisions. There is also a Lieutenant Governor-at-Large position, and that position will assume the responsibility of any Divisions without elected Lt. Governors.

Every candidate will need to submit an application for candidacy. Upon acceptance, each candidate will create a candidacy poster to be featured in the Convention Magazine. At DCON, all candidates will be nominated by a member, present a speech to the attendance, and will be elected during the House of Delegates Session.

However, that process is not required to run for/be elected for an Executive Position. All positions are available to run of the floor as well. While at Convention, during the announcements of nomination, you may choose to be nominated without submitting an application for candidacy, nor will you have to have completed a candidacy poster. However, please keep in mind that running off the floor may affect your candidacy, as Delegates and members may feel that you haven't properly prepared for the election.

The application for candidacy will open soon. Please check our Instagram for updates.
